Impressions of a Journey
On a deep night jog down a Kailua beach, stars sparkle in my footprints as the rain sweeps down,
Heavy raindrops activate biolumninescent flashes in the sand,
Water washes, runs down.

A hiking mountain climb in sandals to the razor's peak,
From eighty feet down to five hundred feet high,
In the space of a day;
Heart pounding effort, dizzying height,
Peace in perspective, a free view, worth excessive millions,
Blues and greens and whites unfurl,
Racing down, controlled descent, passion flower in my hand,
Lotus rest on the rocks.

A swim in the sea,
A turtle says hi.

Diving the wreckage, scuba attached,
Looking at life, counting fish;
Navy diver says (hand signal): topside in two (or less);
Removing the mask, black behemoth's bow pushes past;
Seawolf Class fast attack nuclear sub,
Teeth tingle.

Diving to depths of forty feet, just off the dry-docks,
near the Arizona, thrilling;
Counting fish in the brown dusky haze, losing light,
Losing visibility;
Reaching the lower edge of a rocky outcrop,
a muddy slope drops further out to deeper unseen places;
Peace out there.
